Another Gamble

After I bid on this online auction, I was almost hoping I’d be outbid. The photos and description were so vague I started wondering if this was going to be a total waste of money.

So why did I bid?

Well, first there was this closeup of a Christian Dior logo on a scarf or hanky.

There was no other view of this item, but from this photo it looks authentic, but of course it may not be, and who knows what the condition is. But if it is a nice scarf, it could more than pay for the whole kit and kaboodle.

Then there were these colorful folded up bits that appear to be scarves or shawls. Several intrigued me.

And I really like the looks of these WWII-era pillow covers. A similar one for the Aviation Cadet Center in San Antonio sold a few months ago for $35.

Less thrilling was this clump of old tablecloths and napkins. Though it looks like there may be a few linen hankies and perhaps a crocheted tablecloth or bedspread. Hoping they are not all doilies. Doilies have a very limited market and appeal these days!

In some ways this is a “mystery lot.” I’m not sure exactly what I’ll be getting and if everything, or anything, will be in sellable condition! I paid $30 (with shipping) and I’m hoping to generate $200+ in sales from this lot. (I could be dreaming!)

Will keep you posted when the box arrives and let you know what I actually get. 😉

And do tell…what have you taken a gamble on recently?

Happy hunting,

  1. Can’t wait to see what’s in the box! Some of those scarves are catching my eye, too – the light blue background with green curvy polka-dotted things that remind me of an octopus (!), the one with the yellow background, and the one with the black background at the top center of the photo. I’m also intrigued by the one at center bottom that is almost completely covered by the one on top of it. The edges look interesting – maybe just because I can barely see it! I’m really looking forward to your update post!

  2. I’m glad you’re intrigued too! That green curvy one looks like it could be from the 1960s/1970s! My biggest fear is that these will all have stains or pulls or holes that make them worthless. Hoping to get them next week. 🙂 – Karen
