Found a Holy Grail…Kinda!

Well, that was surprising. On Saturday I ran the last of the errands before Christmas. Bought more wine, cheese and bagels. (You know…the staples!) Also went to the library to pick up a few cozy mysteries and popped by my neighborhood thrift store to drop off another box of books and of course go into the store for a few minutes. And by golly I found something on a new merch cart that made me do a little happy dance and I haven’t done a happy dance there for a long, long time.

I’ve known of famed Swedish ceramist Lisa Larson for years but have never found anything by her in the wild. Ever. Ever. Ever.

Lisa Larson (1931-) and her pottery are renowned representatives of the illustrious Swedish ceramic design of the 20th century. She is well known for her warm-hearted, humorous and sometimes subtly ironic design. Lisa worked for the Gustavsberg factory in 1954-1980. She is represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.

Mother Sweden

Well, today was my day.

Known as “Grumpy Bulldog” in her Kennel series, he was produced in the 1990s by Ceramic Studio Gustavsberg in Sweden.

Some of Larson’s pieces easily sell for $300 and up. Mine is not one of them! But still he’s a good thing. I’ll list him for $90.

So yes I finally found a Lisa Larson ceramic in the wild. Not one of the valuable ones and not anything I’m tempted to keep, but I have no complaints.

Now if I ever find her Jester vase…that just might be a different story! I adore this!!

Here’s to finding holy grails!!

  1. Congratulations! I got a Lisa Larson lion in Sweden in 1969. I was turning 13, my parents and I were traveling and I wanted a souvenir from each county. I got a lion because I’m a Leo. I still have it, and am shocked at its value now!
