I got up before dawn as usual and made my usual cup of French Roast coffee. As I sat there enjoying it, I was in a deja vu haze because I have lived this moment thousands of times. At this table, in this kitchen. Thousands of times. Most of us are creatures of habit, but it struck me this morning how we all have our little rituals and routines and take joy and comfort in them. And now I sit at this very same kitchen table two hours later photographing and listing items for my online stores. Like I do most mornings! This is my work routine.
Though I will say, my sourcing routines of many years fell by the wayside after a few big hauls this past fall. I just don’t have the need for tons of “new” stuff…but I haven’t stopped completely. I need to have a little fun in my job!
Thrift store finds
Here are a few recent bread-and butter finds from my neighborhood Goodwill. The vintage Mexican pottery dove is a signed Blazquez piece. The landscape painting (by Bandes) didn’t wow me, but the vintage frame by the W. T. Burger Co. was outstanding. (Debating whether to sell them separately.)

- MCM Blazquez Pottery Glazed Dove/Pigeon with Brass Tail Embellishment
- Primitive Terracotta Glazed Cross from Mexico
- Naive Hand-Painted Religious Mary Icon on Thick Wood
Fall private pick items
Yup, I’m still working through more of the items from that huge private pick last fall. The previous owners were Catholic so there are a number of religious items…and they are selling.

- Vintage Travel Diptych Sacred Heart of Jesus and Lord’s Prayer in Latin
- Vintage/Antique Spina Christi Seed Rosary with Mary and St. Dominic
- 1887 I.H.N (In His Name) Sterling Silver Religious Pendant, Engraved
Library book sale (bargain rooms)
Last Saturday when our library held its monthly book sale I decided to check out the bargain book rooms. The books in these rooms have already been picked over at regular sales, so it’s tougher picking, but cheap ($1 hardbacks, 50 cents paperbacks)! Unfortunately I went when they had just opened so it was ridiculously crowded. Still I filled one bag for $8.50.

- 1965 “Life with Picasso” Paperback, 32 Photos, Written by Picasso’s Mistress
- 1997 “Whisk(e)y” Hardcover, Illustrated Book, by Stefan Gabanyi, First U.S. Edition
Personal items
From time to time I still downsize items from my collections and here are a couple of gems. The large Mexican cross is lovely and I’m only listing it because I have a similar one. The small sterling silver cigarette case was made in 1918 but engraved and given as a gift in 1944 to one Arther Flood!

- Matl-Style Mexican Sterling Silver Cross Pendant with Stones
- 1918 Sterling Silver Curved Cigarette Case, Engraved
And now with the gray skies and drizzle, I may enjoy another little delicious ritual…the afternoon nap.
Wishing you all happy hunting,
Karen
