I’m trying to work at my kitchen table but the lovely weather and abundant blooms in our yard keeps luring me outside. Sometimes the perfect solution is to grab my laptop and work in the shade of one of our birch trees. Of course then it’s easy to get distracted by all the little birds hopping about and twittering. But what a delightful distraction!
I haven’t been sourcing for my vintage Etsy biz since Saturday’s flea market. Sometimes the right thing to do is to focus on already purchased items. No one in this biz should have a “death pile” but it happens for various (often good) reasons. Needless to say this week I’ve been listing “older” stuff. Most not valuable, but interesting!
I’m working through my stash of old snapshots and pulled together a misc. lot of 100. Lots of cute and poignant photos from the 1910s-1960s. (In the last six weeks four of my photo lots sold so I’ve been encouraged to list more.)
These two 1960s black history books make for powerful, gripping reading. The “To Be a Slave” book is from one of our local middle schools.

I’ve had these 1970s wood frames for so long that I honestly don’t remember where or when I got them. They’ve been listed. Then not. And now listed again. They are already in someone’s cart so at least there is interest!

I have eight of these handmade, handpainted little ceramic bowls. I listed four last year and I finally got the other four listed! The larger serving bowl that went with these sold for $48 a while back. This whole set of bowls was a fabulous flea market find from last year for $5! Just after I bought them a lady next me (who had been eyeing them) said wistfully, “You got a great deal there.” Don’t I know it!
Well, it’s Friday morning and I finally got back to my neighborhood thrift store. One of my new thrifting friends commented that he hadn’t seen me for a while!! Indeed. We had a good natter and he mentioned something surprising. One of our fellow thrifters (who is there ALL the time) may be getting “inside help.” My friend noticed several times when the doors open this guy runs in, dashes to a specific aisle and immediately grabs an item…like he knew it was there…waiting for him. Humph! I suppose this sort of thing happens all the time in thrift stores but it’s a bit discouraging.
While I was there today I struggled to find good items. I was interested in this pendant wrapped in gold for $4.99. But was it turquoise? Or some reconstituted stone? Or?
I left it behind, but later did more research. It might have been worth buying…maybe!

In the end all I bought was this Foley + Corinna Mid-City brown leather tote! It’s a nice quality piece in good condition.
Here’s a hip gal modeling it on the Decadent Dissonance blog. That cobalt blue one is rather fetching!
No idea what I’m going to do this weekend…but I’m thinking I’ll keep it low key!
I’ll close for now wishing you happy hunting,
Karen

I do like the purse in that blue!
I know my Goodwill Outlet give inside info to resellers. I have heard them tell them which bin to stand near, which side, before they bring them out.

Hi Lisa. Yes, the blue purse is rather stunning. Though I can picture carrying my brown version with black jeans, a white blouse and perhaps a turquoise necklace !
I was so sad to hear about the preferential thrift store treatment, but like your experience at Goodwill Outlet, I imagine it happens a lot. 😦
