I typically don’t buy fall, Halloween or Thanksgiving decor items for myself or to resell. But I do like to “repurpose” items that I think suit this time of year…much like I did on our living room mantel (shown in my last blog). This time of year makes me think autumnal colors, fall foods (apples, pumpkins, gourds) and spooky-ish stuff for Halloween. It makes me think of longer dark nights and the need for more light and cozy things.
If you need a little inspiration or are looking for a few seasonal items I’ve selected a few from my Etsy store.
Groovy 1970s Flower Power Fabric (4+ yards)
This sturdy 1970s cotton fabric would look great made into throw pillows or a tablecloth.
Dark Academia Mexican Metal Candelabras
These once silverplated candlesticks have been polished to death giving them a fabulous Dark Academia appeal. Perfect when you want to light candles as the nights lengthen.
Peruvian Mummy/Burial Doll
I bought this quirky doll at the flea market and the seller was able to tell me a bit about it. Apparently parts of it have been made with old burial cloth. Is it a sweet thing? Well, no, but there was something about it that broke my heart a little.
Intriguing Artisan-Made Pottery Vase
This vase looks the epitome of fall with these colors.
1860s-Era “Ornament of Grammar” Book Greek Pages
If you don’t know about Owen Jones’s “Ornament of Grammar” classic (first published in 1856) you should! His catalog of various design styles through many cultures is outstanding. This book is still published today, but the earlier 1800s versions are worth some serious money. I have a few of the older pages for sale that are suitable for framing.

Small 1976 Habeman Glass Vase
This small artisan-made glass vase is a charmer with intriguing colors!
Quirky Pottery Pumpkin/Gourd Bowl, 1995, Signed
I think this is just fabulous. I have it displayed in my family room till it sells.
1930s Dutch Paisley Shawl
This is a beautiful, reversible woven wool/cotton shawl that looks amazing for its age and is so usable–to wear or drape over a chair or even use as a small tablecloth.
So a few goodies that I think lend themselves to the coming season!
Ta,
Karen

Oh, boy, that fabric! As a teenager of the early ’70s, it certainly looks familiar!
