Created a Jewelry Bag

Personally, I have never bought a jewelry jar. I am not opposed to them but have never found one worth buying. Most seem to be filled with pieces that are newer, poor quality and/or broken. And yes I know some folks have scored sterling silver, gold and diamonds from jewelry jars, but it really seems like such a gamble. If your thrift store is at all savvy, that good stuff is not in in that bag or jar.

Recently I watched the delightful Picker Road resellers open four jewelry jars on their YouTube channel. They paid $14.99 for each jar ($59.96 total) and while it was fun to watch them open the jars, I had a sinking feeling after each jar was dumped out. There were so many newer junk jewelry items and broken pieces. I really wanted them to find something super fantastic and they didn’t.

As I am in a “detash mode,” I decided to pull together the kind of jewelry bag I’d want to find in the wild–one full of vintage and antique pieces. Some of these have been listed in my Etsy store, others never listed, but 95% are good, wearable vintage pieces, including sterling silver items. Even though it’s just one bag, for the price of their four jars I think they would have enjoyed opening this one more!!

There’s a cool Lisner bracelet, some MCM glass bead necklaces, a stretch bracelet lavish with stone beads bought in Austria and an antique sterling silver brutalist brooch. Lots of neat pieces. I priced the bag at $55 which helps me recoup a bit of my original costs while still providing enough room for profit for the right buyer.

Time will tell if this little experiment worked. [It did! Sold in one day.]

All the best,

Karen
