Time goes by so quickly that I feel like I’m barely keeping up. And now it is almost summer and getting warm. The other day I had to go out and fill our bird bath again (a popular place for goldfinches and chickadees) and give the potted plants another drink. By 6:00 p.m., the breeze was just a warm caress on my skin and it felt so lovely and familiar that I felt I could step back in time to my childhood. Back then, after dinner, and with a couple of hours of daylight left, me and my girlfriends would be out playing. Swinging on swings. Riding bikes. Swimming. Gathering with others for hide and seek as night started to descend. So much fun.
These days there is not much swinging on swings, but I do look forward to summer concerts, art fairs and picnics with family and friends.
On the vintage biz front I am still limiting my buying. In May I spent under $14. That’s it!!! But I am still listing, mostly charms from a variety of the bracelets I bought this year. Here are a few recent store additions–a jeep with movable wheels and amazing details and this Capri bell charm which is actually a good luck piece that was given to WWII U.S. airmen. Apparently they would affix it to their flight jackets. The value on this surprised me. (They sell for over $100.) The tiny ring box is a sweetie which naturally comes with its own teeny ring.

Besides buying charms I am still buying books from time to time. Vintage art, poetry, religion and cookery books sell for me so I keep an eye out for them. Plus if they don’t sell, I don’t have much money invested in them, usually just a dollar or two. I thought this 1973 museum book of the art of Africa, Oceania and the Americas was a fascinating one and I’m going to give it a good looking over before it sells. (Paid $1, listed for $20.)

Occasionally I look on FB marketplace for possible deals and spotted this listing of leather-bound books, but yikes $6000 for 110 titles! The seller indicates that this deal is good enough for resellers to make a profit. Really??!
While there may be some rare ones in the collection and these can sell for over a hundred dollars, most don’t. Most resell for under $40 and there are a lot available. To be honest, I think you’d be hard pressed to make your money back, let alone a profit.
So I won’t be buying these books, but am looking forward to finding more cool ones for my store.
Happy hunting. Hope the weather is grand where you are.
Karen
