As I was looking at my calendar and the obligations I have coming up in the next few weeks, it dawned on me that Christmas is just four months away. Now for most people, most normal people, it hasn’t crossed your mind. And why should it? It’s still summer. Hot and steamy with flowers in bloom, pools still in use, and a slew of other holidays to celebrate first.
But as someone who sells stuff online, it has crossed my mind. More than once!
First I’ve realized that certain of my shipping supplies are dwindling and I should stock up now. Running out in November or December is not a good thing.
Second, I thought I might go through some of my personal Christmas decorations to see if there are any more I can part with and get them added to my Etsy store. Now is the time.
And third I am wondering if there are items I should really focus on listing? Things that might make for wonderful holiday presents? I definitely need to get caught up on my vintage books. I think books are great gifts. And I have a few bits of jewelry along with vintage sterling silver charms. I have so many charm purchases from 2025 that I still haven’t listed that it’s shameful really. And maybe add some of the vintage clothing I have been neglecting.
While part of me doesn’t want to think of Christmas right now, part of me does. Part of me wants to drift back into happy memories of my childhood and when my daughters were young when the world seemed a little kinder. Do you know what I mean?
Even in college I had some sweet holiday memories. For a time nine of us lived in this seriously dumpy student apartment with one bathroom!! Honestly this apartment had no redeeming qualities. At some point we rescued this wood mantel from somewhere and put it in our small living room to give it a little class. In my senior year we decorated it hanging up our socks and over the few days before we all left for the Christmas holiday, little gifts started mysteriously filling them up. To this day it is a sweet memory.
To get myself in the mood I have been watching some of my fav YouTubers touring the Christmas decor already for sale in fancy London department stores. Honestly while I think all of it is so beautiful, it never moves me like vintage pieces do and yowee the prices for single pieces are eye watering. Still I love looking.
