Heading East…

The weather the last few days has been sunny, in the 70s and just lovely but I find myself distracted. In a day I fly back east to visit my youngest (and now only) brother and our elderly father. (They live in a lovely area near the Smokey Mountains.) And this year I’m not only figuring out what clothes to bring, but also what bits of family memorabilia. Years ago I ended up as the repository for a lot of family photos, recipes and certificates, some from the 1800s, but most were just being stored in a cupboard and it occurred to me that maybe my youngest bro would like some too. He does! He’s big into researching our lineage so I’m glad he wants them.

This belonged to our great grandmother.

But suddenly I feel like I have dozens of loose ends to tie up before I leave for a week. The “hardest” was putting my Etsy store on “vacation mode” and changing the shipping time on eBay…which means that I likely won’t get any orders this coming week. I’ll miss that!! But I also won’t have to deal with all the customer emails/questions/offers!

Still despite feeling a bit stressed, or maybe because of it, I decided to pop into my neighborhood thrift store. I was determined to find at least one thing to buy today. I was tempted by a large Gund “Webster” teddy bear (priced at $7+) with original tag. It could have been a nice bread-and-butter buy, but teddies are super slow sellers for me these days so I left it behind.

But I did find this sweet vintage needlepoint purse in lovely condition and was enchanted. This was more like it! No label but clean inside and out with leather sides. The only downside is the snap no longer works, but as a clutch that’s not a huge problem. I’m guessing this is 1970s. Besides the ’70s design it has an old metal zippered pocket inside and metal zippers are rarely used these days.

Vintage, charming and usable, I’ll be listing this for $58.

Well, I need to finish packing. Not looking forward to the two flights tomorrow. Air travel is so uncomfortable these days and it’s all the more tedious when you’re traveling alone. But it will be good to see my brother and dad again and maybe get in a little antiquing!

Happy hunting,

Karen

  1. Hi, I think I commented to you last year when you talked about coming to TN. I want to tell you about an outdoor antique show the weekend of May 3 and 4. it’s a town, Clinton, that is north of Knoxville. I live west of Knoxville so it’s not much of a drive. My husband and I set up there. It’s a nice show.

If you have any questions, let me know. If you go, I’ll give you more info.

    Safe travels, Abbe

  2. Have a great trip! ♥

I just got back from a week in North Carolina and Charleston for a day. I kept my shop open, put a note at the top of my store items won’t ship for a week (and in the confirmation email) and adjust shipping times. It works great.

It can be overwhelming to get orders while away, but I’d rather deal with it and make some money while I’m out spending it. Ha.

    Have a great time.
