Had a lovely time in eastern Tennessee visiting my brother and father for a few days. We enjoyed meals together, talked up a storm, hung outside on his deck (with a glimpse of the Smokey Mountains in the distance), and of course went antiquing and thrifting.
We hit up two of our favorite antique malls in Walland and I actually bought a few things. No “happy dance” scores, but I am content with a few bread-and-butter items. This Victorian-era Eastlake cast iron double inkwell stand is my favorite. The design details are just fabulous. Obviously missing its glass inkwells, but I’ll be “replacing” those with glass votive candleholders and showing in another post how this obsolete item can be repurposed!
Of course I was ever aware that less than two hours away to the east some Tennessee and North Carolina communities had literally been swept away by Hurricane Helene. A few years ago we had visited the Antique Tobacco Barn in a part of Asheville, NC, known as Biltmore Village. This HUGE building was jampacked with fabulous items. Now it’s a sea of rubble.
In my spare time I perused eBay for treasures and ended up making an offer for this sterling silver and turquoise pin. I adore–just adore–sterling silver and turquoise jewelry. This one was marked LA. So I check out my favorite site for Native American hallmarks and discovered it was made by Len Adakai. Nice!!! The seller accepted my offer and the pin will arrive in a few days and hopefully will not disappoint. I paid up for it, but there is still meat on the bone.
And now I’m back home and trying to get back into the swing of things! I’ve got a long list of projects to take care of around the house and yard and I need to get back to work in my store.
Wishing you happy hunting,
Karen

That tobacco farm is insane. There is so much stuff there. I would spend there weeks in a row just searching for stuff.

“Insane” is a good word for it. It’s huge!
But after the hurricane flood this fall, all the stock was destroyed and the building had to be cleaned out and repaired. But I read they plan to reopen in early 2025!
