I didn’t leave the house for three days this week. I just had a strong desire and need to stay home. I took care of this and that. Biz stuff. House stuff. Wore comfy clothes. Read and wrote. Watched favorite mysteries. Talked to a few friends. Enjoyed our Christmas tree. And it was lovely. I am so grateful to be at this time in my life where I can have stay-at-home days. (And thankfully my husband offered to drop my Etsy Christmas orders off at the post office during this time so that was covered.)
But Thursday I had an early morning dentist appointment so I had to pull myself together and afterwards I decided to hit up my neighborhood thrift store. (Hadn’t been in five days.) Walked in and saw a new merch cart. Gave it a cursory glance, wandered away and they came back a few minutes later. And that’s when I spotted this sweet little cup. Flipped it over and saw the Herend name. OMG, a piece of Herend for $2.50! Yes, please!!

Even though it’s not a valuable piece, it was a happy-dance moment. I never expected to find Herend at Goodwill.
Herend Porcelain in Hungary has been around since 1826 and while it’s had ups and downs over the centuries, it continues to be a sought-after luxury brand collected and treasured by many, including royalty. It’s one to look for.
Most folks are listing this piece online between $45 and $80, though one gal on Chairish has it priced at $399. Goodness!
I listed mine just below the Replacements.com price for what I think will be a quick sale. (It’s already in one cart.) But I am happy to keep this for a while if it doesn’t sell.
This little find was another reminder that good stuff does hit the thrift-store shelves now and then and the more you know, the better your chances of finding it. Well, you know this too! I shudder to think of what I’ve passed up because I didn’t know what I was looking at. Hoping to learn more in 2026!
Wishing you happy hunting,
Karen
