I had just gotten groceries but since I was literally passing by my neighborhood thrift store I had to pop in for a few minutes. Well, you know the feeling. But I couldn’t stay long with perishables in the car.
Glad I did. Found a couple of buy-worthy items in less than 10 minutes.
First I picked up this blue cloisonne bowl. It’s of no great age, but rather pretty with no damage. To be honest cloisonne has not been selling quickly for me these days (a vase I sold a few months ago took three years to sell!), but I still thought it was worth picking up. (Listed for $48.)

In the glass area I saw several nice cut crystal dishes, but these have been lingering for me too so I set them down. Then I saw this nicely made fish ashtray and it was signed. I couldn’t read the signature so I did an image lookup. Turns out it’s Lalique! Holy smokes! I have NEVER found Lalique in the wild before and had to constrain myself from doing a happy dance in the aisle.

Now this was more like it. And it reminded of the sweet gal in my town who sells vintage stuff on Etsy too (and has a YouTube channel) but never shops at our local Goodwills because she believes they never have good stuff.
Prices for this piece are all over the place but in the end I’ve listed mine for $148. On the downside, there seem to be quite a few for sale, but I would be happy to keep this if it doesn’t sell.
Paid $12.15 for both.
Afterwards I had my hair professionally cut–the first time in ages and ages–and it was wonderful. (It was part of my scheme for getting out of the rut that I’ve been in.) I feel like a new woman. Should have done it long ago, but frankly I was stymied trying to find a new place and a new hairdresser. Always tricky. But Katie was great and I like my shorter, layered hair.

And my 66-hour fast from last week went well too…till the very end. When I went to make eggs to break my fast I felt lightheaded and broke out in a cold sweat. Turns out my blood sugar was too low and then after breakfast I made the mistake of restarting my normal daily supplements which caused havoc to digestion. (Enough said on that!) So Sunday was a wash out but it was good knowing I had given my body a chance to “clean house” and repair. On Monday I weighed myself and was thrilled to see that I had I lost four pounds which I really, really hope do not come back! (I need to lose more.)
These little physical changes and fun finds gave me the emotional boost I needed to get back on track with life and my biz. This week I’m tackling some of the more tedious biz aspects–dealing with inventory piles, reorganizing and catching up with my accounting for tax season.
Would love to hear what helps you get out of a rut.
Karen
