A Few Days of Loveliness

After so many weeks of clouds and rain and general dreariness in the San Francisco Bay Area it was grand to have two full days of sun and 70-degree weather. I loved being outside and caught up on some overdue yard projects when I wasn’t sitting in one of our Adirondack chairs reading or admiring the spring blossoms.

Frankly it felt good to put my vintage biz on the back burner for a couple of days. I tend to work at it a little each day and I was starting to feel weary and unmotivated. Spending time outside was the perfect antidote!

But I am ready to put in time today…

First, I started reviewing March sales. It was an average month. Not bad, but not wow either. I was pleased that a few of my long-time items FINALLY sold–like the Italian leather purse, the huge crocheted tablecloth, the big sterling silver leaf brooch and the MCM alabaster grapes (paid 6.09, sold for $125) which are headed to an art gallery in New York City! The vintage Bara rattan purse (paid $14.09, sold for $70) took less than a week to sell. I think its pristine condition made the difference.

The Jerusalem paperweight was a North Carolina antique store find from 18 months ago. The seller didn’t realize the outer covering was sterling silver and had priced it for $8.50. (Sold for $58.)

The antique Weller pottery piece was a “happy dance” Goodwill score of 2022. (Paid $6.09, sold for $148.50 on sale.)

If I glean anything from March sales it would be that quirky stuff is still selling as are books (a nice trend in this era of e-books) and quality older pieces.

Now I need to get cracking on adding new listings. I have lots of charms and books that I’ve been sitting on as well as more religious medals and ephemera, including hundreds of old photos.

A big hatbox full of photos to deal with!!

Sadly my photo lots have been languishing in my Etsy store. Not sure what I’m going to do. Usually I lot them up in themes: families, couples, military, holidays, travel, etc. Maybe I need to make bigger lots or more mixed lots. Change prices. Not sure.

Here’s an older listing with some cool images. I show every photo in lots so there are no surprises.

I’ll close for now wishing you happy hunting as I ponder what to do with all these photos!

  1. I love old photos, and postcards, however I don’t pay what you are asking, especially on the postcards. I actually find piles of old photos in the Goodwill Outlet bins.

You had some nice sales last month. What a deal that Weller was! I’d have snatched it up too!

    1. Hi Lisa. It could be that I have the photos priced too high. I rarely find them for cheap. I might end up creating a couple of mega lots to try and shift them.

I’ve actually done pretty well on uncirculated 1930s-1950s linen postcards. One customer ended up buying six lots at $200+.

The Weller find was so unexpected…and exciting!
