Posted by Religious items are one of my favorite niches in my Etsy store. Even non-religious folks will buy faith-based items for their beauty or history. So when I spotted this reverse-painted icon from Transylvania I was intrigued. The painting and frame are rather naive and rustic, but it was still one to buy.
Essentially it was a tourist piece bought at the historic Sucevița Monastery in Romania. (Photo courtesy of manastireasucevita.com/.)
And given that this information tag describing the history of these glass icons also includes a website address it was likely made in this century, so not old.
Alas it is not the same painting quality or age (some 19th century) as these more expensive Romanian reverse-glass painted icons.
Still, I think someone will appreciate this more simplistic, newer piece.
Here are the items currently for sale in my Religious section. I’m realizing it’s looking a little sparse! Time to be more diligent in sourcing for special items.
